Explanation of Experience
As I stated on the home page, I talked about how this was the first time I took this class. I wasn't sure what to expect but as time went on I realized I have learned so much and that it was the perfect experience to do for a capstone. My experience is shown through the articles I have written throughout the year. I posted each article as a picture in a blog post and wrote a short caption why I wrote it and what it was like writing them.
Behind every article is a system that was in place in class. We have different sections in The Reporter which are; News, Opinion, Student Life, Arts and Entertainment, and Get Involved. There are at least two editors in each section. Then an assistant editor and editor in chief.
At the beginning of every cycle we have a class brain storming session where we throw out possible article ideas for our editor in chief to write on the board. Then Mrs. Fitzwater contributes articles ideas that teachers have emailed her about for staff members to volunteer to write about. We then fill out story starter sheets to keep all the stories everyone is writing organized. After this we have about two weeks for that cycle. We have about a week of the two weeks to interview people and write our articles. We then turn in our stories and start sheets in to the section editors, work on our edits, then to the assistant editor, then editor in chief and then finally our advisor, Mrs. Fitzwater. We have the second half of the two weeks to work on our edits and turn our final stories in to the advisor by the end of the two weeks. Then a couple day break for Mrs. Fitzwater to start posting them and for people to finish up edits from Mrs. Fitzwater. We then start a new cycle.
